Leadership and Outreach

Founder & Director - CoDesignS ESD Framework and Association for Learning Design and Education for Sustainable Development (ALDESD)

In a remarkable journey that began in 2018 with the support of prestigious institutions including the University of East London, City University London, and Imperial College London, the Learning Design Bootcamp has grown globally under my leadership.

Starting with an initial cohort that saw participation from four teams, the Bootcamp has expanded to involve over 20 universities in its committee and a global pool of mentors from countries as diverse as the UK, Colombia, the UAE, and Australia.

These mentors, highly experienced in learning design and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), have become agents of change, extending the Bootcamp's impact beyond its initial scope. The Bootcamps have evolved to address the pressing need for quality online learning design, particularly highlighted by the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

My leadership also facilitated the development of the CoDesignS ESD Framework, providing a global perspective on curriculum design and sustainability. In collaboration with universities worldwide, building an extensive global network of ESD champions spanning academic staff, students and UN educational consultants.

As the founder of the Association for Learning Design and ESD (ALDESD), I am proud to see the Bootcamp become a vital resource for educational institutions worldwide, equipping them with the necessary skills and competencies to incorporate ESD into curriculum design.

Blended Learning Design Tool (BLEnDT)

I designed and developed the Blended Learning Design Tool (BLEnDT) at Imperial College London. BLEnDT was introduced as a key element of the Curriculum Mapping Tool at the School of Medicine.

Following on from that, I initiated and established collaborations in the use of BLEnDT with the Centre for Technology Enhanced Learning at King's College London, University College London (UCL) and The School of Health Sciences at City University London.

Virtual Patients & Virtual Worlds

I have led several research activities with high international impact, focused on the delivery of virtual patients following a game-based learning approach in the virtual world of Second Life. This work was featured on CNN — Edge of Discovery in 2009.

In 2007 I led the development of the Imperial College Virtual Patient Tool, establishing collaborations with 7 other international medical schools in Italy, Portugal, Chile, Turkey, Taiwan, Japan and the UK.

Mobile Learning (MBBS)

I drove the School of Medicine at Imperial College London to become the first medical school in the UK to issue iPads to all its undergraduate medical students, supported by a learning and assessment mobile ecosystem.

The Guardian – Health Education England: I was invited to participate in a roundtable discussion led by The Guardian and the Health Education England's Technology Enhanced Learning Programme in August 2016: How can health and social care employers help staff development?
